NORTHAMPTON - A building at Old School Commons was yesterday named in honor of longtime city educator and volunteer Kathleen M. Sheehan.
Sheehan, 76, who lives in Florence, told a crowd of friends and supporters that she is honored to have her name on the building where her mother once taught physical education.
Sheehan, who worked for Northampton schools for 35 years and was principal of Leeds School until her retirement in 1992, said she is representing all of the women who have dedicated their lives to teaching the children of Northampton.
"I feel very honored to be a representative of that group of teachers. When people see that sign on the bilding, I hope that the remember some special teach and how they affected their lives," Sheehan said before peeling off the paper that covered the new sign outside the building.
